Extra details

Alfred was the adopted son of Frederick and Annie Harding, they had two children of their own - Esther Annie and Fred. On the censuses they always had young boarders with them so were probably "foster parents". Alfred's birth registration, in Cardiff, has his mother's maiden name as Thompson.

Alfred attended Aylesbury Road school where he was a very good runner and helped to retain the Sports Shield for his school. On leaving school he took up an office job with the publishers Messrs Hodder and Staughton. By the time he enlisted he was in a position of comparative responsibility.

Alfred was posted to the Front on 4th July 1915 where he died 3 months later.
