Little is known about the Lettingtons brothers who died during the war, there are no obituaries or photos. Only Frederick's army record survives and a record of Arthur, Frederick , Frank and other siblings joining the Band of Hope at the Wesleyan Church.
William Lettington and Jane Revell were married in 1881. They moved between West Wickham, Cudham and Hayes before settling in Bromley where their youngest child Harry Frank was born in 1898. They had ten children, seven boys and 3 girls. In August 1898 their son Walter William (aged 10) was found dead in a field, believed to have died following a fit brought on by the heat. As well as losing four sons to the war two of their daughters married into families who also lost members. Georgina Jessie married Arthur Maunton whose brother Albert died; Annie Maria married Henry James Gregory whose brother Thomas, brother-in-law Augustus Charles Cook and nephew Charles Frederick Gregory all died. Thomas Gregory's wife Mary Ann (nee Gurr) also lost a brother, Arthur George and nephew George William.
Arthur was William and Jane's 8th child. He was a pupil at Raglan Road School.
By 1911 aged 19 Arthur was in the Dragoon Guards at Preston Military Barracks near Brighton, Sussex. He transferred to the 13th Squadron of the Machine Gun Corp (Cavalry) and died on 5th April 1918.
